ADIOS: The Megaroth
Today’s discussion from the world of Scion is a particular sea beast whose name has changed on more than one occasion. As is with history eventually all things repeat themselves and this beast ahs gone from Megaroth to many different names and has inevitably returned to my first choice of name. It helps to verbally prepare the reader for the grotesque size of this creature.
So without further adieu.
On the day of its birth the entire sea fell silent in awe of its massive size and destructive power. Birds fled the skies for fear of being snatched from the clouds and beasts of all sizes made great distance in hope of not being consumed within its massive maw. It would be the sentient beings ignorant of nature and the signs of a coming terror that would suffer the greatest.
The races of the Seraphim have always thought of themselves as mighty mariners up until the birth of Megaroth. Indeed there are countless beasts from Kraken to massive sharks and other carnivorous beasts that utterly devastate the fleets of untrained sailors. However none would compare to the awesome might of the greatest predator. The hunger of the beast never ends and it bellows beneath the waves a song of pain and despair, the shouting of a million souls buried forever within its gut. It is the creatures of the lands that have the most to fear, as the sea has evolved to accommodate the monstrous fiend the civilizations of the land have been entirely unprepared. One cannot know the caress of the sea without equally feeling the caress of death.
The nature of the strikes are perhaps why the Megaroth is also called the Void of the Sea. While each tells a story of a separate sighting the attacks of shockingly similar. As ships set out fruitlessly to sea in hopes of proving that the beast is fantasy there is a silence. No animal makes a sound, even the wind itself seems to fear making its presence known. Once the ship is too far from land to return in time is when it strikes. As far as the eye can see the sea is stripped of every ounce of light, the waves freeze in place like cobalt glass. Overhead the clouds are all drawn to a central point above the ship. What follows is the longest minute for any aboard the vessel. A distance echo of shattering glass is followed by the entire frozen mass falling dozens and dozens of feet straight down crashing upon an unseen barrier. Only the best made ships to not shatter upon the impact, most of the crews likely dying or horribly wounded from the fall. At this point off in the distance the horizon vanishes behind a rising wall of endless darkness. The wall rockets towards the heavens as it wraps around the clouds closing overhead swallowing the day itself.
Sinking straight back into the sea there is a sharp recoil of sea water as the beast vanishes once more, massive waves smash against any nearby coasts and those foolish enough to have not fled may find themselves too being pulled out to sea to join those they watched sink into the Void.
Impossibly so it appears to be in all places at all times. It’s destructive powers and skill so great that for more than a millennia it has severed the ties of all nations to such a degree than none believes that the others exist. It is the Megaroth and the Megaroth alone that has dominated the sea and it seems to have no plans of relinquishing its domain.
