Weddings and WTF?

For those curious about the last update, I’ve just been really tired with the incredibly up front racism that’s been on a few 24 hour news stations and the internet at large. Even my facebook has its fair share of “Snicker, Muslims==murderers&&rapists&&terrorists.” That sort of stuff is disheartening, you don’t want to think that your friends are retarded, I of course mean that in the willing sense as opposed unwilling handicap from birth and genetic defects. They can be hard to distinguish but I’m making that separation. I try to convince myself that they are just being sarcastic and I missed it, but at this point in the evolution of the internet the [/sarcasm] tag has become standard enough to be expected.

Today is my last day in California for over a week! I leave for Washington to get married and I must say that overall I am getting more pleased by the day. About the only unfortunate thing right now is that I have a nasal voice from that cold, it really put my throat and nose through a harsh loop. Hopefully I’ll be fully vocal and normal by September 4th. I’ll be investigating any sort of “cures” for this issue that don’t involve half a pound of over the counter medication…wish me luck I suppose.

So yes, short update. I hope my last one wasn’t hyper nationalistic sounding, I’m not necessarily saying Americans are the best people ever because that conflicts with many of the psychological and philosophical beliefs that I’ve explained on here. But when you proclaim that you are a people of higher moral standards, of stronger will, and of greater overall stature then you should damn well act like these things or at least one of them. Many of these people involved with the entire anti-middle eastern movement are none of them and yet they don’t get laughed out of the country like the scabs they are.

It’s a darn shame. A shame that I won’t be thinking the least about on the 4th :P . But until then and possibly after then it will bother me. Only because you would hope that within something like ten thousand years you could get people to at least a 98% “Head not-in-ass” state. Maybe science will invent a cream that you can rub on your temples and it’ll dissolve all the stupid that gunk up for these folks.

Admittedly it is still a very small part of the country, but any percent that is not itself a percent of a percent is too much. The anti-intellectual movement is troublesome and benefits nobody, not even the people pushing it.

Time to Decide: Do you love America?

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

- Thomas Jefferson (Source)

I’ve gotten tired recently of something that has been out of hand since 2001. A small contingency of men set out to terrify an entire nation, and do you know what happened? They did it.

This is bat-shit retarded, there is no reason that we should be changing the way we live for a group of people so separated from us that they are nearly inconsequential. What they did required a very important fact to be true it had to have never been done before. That’s it! They weren’t masterminds, they don’t have any other amazing schemes in the plan for the future, they just got lucky. No jackass before them had ever thought to try it before them and so when they hijacked those planes nobody stood up and beat the ever living crap out of them. Had those people realized that they were going to die none of these planes would have got to their destination, they’d have all ended up either landing or-tragic still-ending up like Pennsylvania.

Would I ever want anyone dying for any reason? No. Ideally there is no reason anyone should have to die, life should be a matter of choice. If you don’t want to live anymore you just flip the switch. But that’s a talk for another day.

What should have happened after the attack on the US is a full scale attack on Afghanistan and the very second that we knew he had crossed borders we should have demanded entrance to catch him. He was likely present during the Battle of Tora Bora in 2001 and we failed to capture him. I don’t blame a single US soldier for that, the fact that they fight for this country is a huge deal. They are all deeply respected by me (and I’m sure most of the country). However the fact remains that he got away.

He should have been captured, tried in court, just as every terrorist or extremist that has been caught. They should be shown that our systems work and that justice will be served. The entire nonsense of holding people eternally without ever trying them is a black stain on this nation and an example of what happens when people don’t really care about the values of their nation.

After, or rather during, this series of events we should have rebuilt the world trade center. We should have shown the entire world that the US does not fear anyone. That we are a people united, our dreams are endless and we will overcome every challenge, that is what should have happened. Those that died would receive a wall with their names and any other symbolic memorial that we can surmise at the base and I feel the top as well. There names could then glow beneath the warmth of the sun for centuries to come.

What we should have never done was increase security in airports like a bunch of terrified children. The people of the US are informed, diligent, and when the time demands it Heroic, the one aircraft that knew the danger they were facing confronted it like heroes. The next time some idiot would have stood up and tried to hijack a plane he would have likely been beat to death before the plane even landed. Think that is farfetched? It’s happened already (though not killed). That’s just one incident, there has been at least one other where the man was beaten by the passengers.

People know what is going on, this sort of bullshit will never occur again without some serious armament on the aircraft. The truth of the matter is, if someone really wants to use a plane as a weapon, they will…period. But that’s not really what happened, they are opportunists, they saw a tactic that hadn’t been utilized and was thus available. They knew that the largest boundary between them and using those planes was the belief of the passengers that they would live. That was it. That’s the only way any criminal gets away with a victim, when a person knows they could die the situation rarely pans out favorably for the criminal.

Worse still, we’ve had these nonsensical color coded terror guides that have been used for no other reason than to keep people in an endless state of terror and paranoia. They are useless. As I said, we are American’s, much more we are human beings, we should be above this. We don’t need a color code, screw these idiots, if they try anything in the US the 2nd Amendment crowd will blow them to hell and back. People are always diligent, there are areas with bad crime yes, but generally when crimes go down folks report it. If a crime looks like it might go down people report it. We don’t need a rainbow to show us how we should be feeling (though I do like rainbows…refracted light for the win).

We should also not have been targeting Muslim’s in the US. Does nobody remember World War II? What the hell happened. So we see how foolish we were treating the Japanese American’s like shit and so how do we respond the next time a similar situation arises? We do the same damn thing. Telling Muslims or Middle Eastern People that they cannot walk somewhere? That they cannot worship in a country that was founded on the idea of Freedom, of Speech, of Belief, or Dream. We are a nation of Equals, regardless of what Capitalistic inequalities may be scarring us we are an idealistic nation of equals and should be acting like it. Every single American who treats another Law Abiding American like shit hates America.

That’s what it comes down to. Do you love America? Do you believe in the values that this nation was founded on? Regardless of them being hypocritical at the time of there founding, we have moved forward, we have evolved and moved closer to the dreams that we all deserve. This Ground Zero Mosque Propaganda, the Mosques all over the US that are being protested, that’s all bullshit. These protestors hate America, period. If they loved America they would be welcoming other American’s to pray to whatever god they feel is their own. We should be showing the rest of the world that no shit stain extremist can turn us against each other. Not running around swinging signs and harassing other people because of the color of there skin or the faith they follow.

And no, Muslims are not Terrorists, Terrorists are terrorists, If we are going to start judging entire religions by the actions of there worst then we’ve just entered a very slippery slope where every faith is evil. So either drop your faith before you bash there’s or start supporting them because this bullshit is entirely un-American and everyone involved should feel like a complete and utter disappointment.

Terror Babies and Anchor babies are just another flavor of Racism and Bigotry, congratulations to everyone who believes in any of this nonsense, you are De facto assholes who wish your asshole bigotry was Law.

To everyone else, the vast majority of American’s who actually love America and humanity as a whole, you all are awesome. Thanks for visiting and I hope that you at can do the right thing and make sure that all these hate mongers are ignored and treated like the complete jokes they are.

Rico Examines “Arizona: A Final Thought”

So I’ve discussed this many times across the internet but I’ve never posted about it here. So I feel now is a good time. There are four issues people have with illegal immigration that I would like to address. These are all of course Myths :) . The first is that Illegal Immigration costs the nation financially. The second is that Illegal Immigration leads to higher crime rates. The third is that illegal immigration steals jobs from American Citizens. The Fourth is that Illegal Immigrants have no rights.

Arizona has argued that Illegal Immigration and Hispanics in particular have been the sole (if not at least the largest) cause of their financial plight. This is an easy target as technically if any of them march on you they can be deported. Regardless even Fox news has attacked this. In an article entitled “Despite Rhetoric, Illegal Immigration Provides Benefits to States.” they note that as of 2006 Arizona made 424.7 Million dollars off of illegal immigrants and that between 50 to 75 percent of them pay federal, state, and local income tax.

If you were curious all states with illegal immigrants have similar findings. Likewise the alienation of the illegal immigrant population is likely to cause the bankruptcy of Arizona. Perhaps the most fitting way for the state to collapse economically, beneath an irony that creates its own point singularity.

The next one is that illegal immigration leads to higher crime rates. The truth behind this can be found in studies at every level of government (and some independent ones). Just quickly I’ll note “Immigration: No Correlation With Crime” as a good starting point. There is no higher chance that an illegal immigrant will commit a crime over a legal one. The only real correlation is that economic stability leads to lower crime rates. Whenever a person or group of persons is left with an economic gap they will take avenues to fill that gap. Generally that means committing crimes. Any nation that provides its people with a stable life will in turn have a model citizenship. Mental instability not included (always a variable). In fact if we stopped hunting illegals and allowed them to report crimes safely they’d be more likely to do so and far less likely to be targeted by criminals (as they wouldn’t be a free hit). The same goes for prostitutes, our moralizing leaves them in a dangerous situation that would not exist if it were legal (Example: Any legal ranch in Nevada).

Thirdly we have that illegal immigrants are stealing the jobs from American’s. This is another one with bountiful sources of information but they all require the bane of many American’s lives…reading. To those that have made it this far I trust that you are apt to reading and thusly lay this upon you “Shipping Jobs Overseas: How Real is the Problem?” as a jumping off point for research. The Jobs that American’s want and the jobs that Americans actually fill are lost because of overseas movement of jobs. Free Trade and demand for cheap goods has lead to companies moving all their “One Job for a Household” jobs to other nations like China and India. Hispanics and Illegal Immigrants in General take jobs that are always open, jobs that nearly no American wants. The likelihood of you wanting a job and a Hispanic “taking it” are very very slim. Unless Illegals have started moving into management positions all over the south.

Finally we have the idea that Illegal Immigrants have no rights. This particular train of thought has boggled my mind so hard I feared I might be stricken stupid. All people have, by belief of the United States very foundation, Inalienable or “Natural” Rights. These rights stem from the very fact that we are human and can never be negated. For those wanting a fantastic jumping off point for this research “Natural and Legal Rights”. There are certain legal rights as a citizen that Illegal Immigrants do not have. This is an unfortunate situation that stems more from us wishing to not dictate too many freedoms to enemy soldiers than it does from pro-American immigrants.

Which is where my problem with this whole situation arises. These are not anti-American extremists, these are people who largely love the United States. Who can tell you more about United States History and Culture than anyone legal you live near. They know more about United States Presidents than college graduates and, given the same social and economic blessings that regular citizens hope to have, they are just as wonderful as any other person. Because at heart, these are just ordinary people, who are being treated as if they were brought over on a boat from Africa. As if they are somehow less than human, worthy of being treated as cattle. Just as the slaves of times past in the US should have never been treated as they were, we stand now at a time when Hispanics and people from all nations who wish to come here and support us should be treated with the respect they earned the moment the desire to live here spawned.

We are a nation of immigrants, a nation of people who originally forced their way into an already habited nation and took over. To think that we would judge now people coming in peacefully and attempting as hard as they can to assimilate is not only hypocrisy but it is also an example of our character that the entire nation looks upon with shame.

IIWP (If I was President): Taxation

On occasion I think I’m going to write something about what I’d do if I was President. Now more accurately these are things I’d do if I was a dictator. But we’ll assume that in this fantasy universe the President is not surrounded by a bunch of charismatic but utterly hollow individuals. In this theoretically universe the government is a group of people who actually care about the people who are not in the government. Which is entirely possible, unlikely given the way people vote, but possible.

Taxation, in this nation that I am President of, would only come from one source: Luxury living. There would be no taxes on food, no taxes on houses, no taxes on income, and no taxes on land. There would only be taxation on living luxuriously which includes all non-necessity purchases. We are going to assume that in this fictitious universe people are going to accept the somewhat ambiguous term “non-necessity” and not try to abuse it. To save us the thousands of pages of documentation that might be required to stop lawyers or lobbyists from royally screwing the pooch. For those wanting a few examples, services, entertainment, and relaxation would be three luxuries. When I say relaxation I’m talking about products made to aid in that, not the actual act. Nobody is taxing you to nap, then again taxing on a free thing ends up still being free so I suppose it is still fine.

Taxation of luxury items would be somewhat high, 10 cents on every dollar, which though high would for most people be far less annually than they currently spend. The average American household in 2009 spent 43,395 dollars. Of that roughly half was for things that would no longer be taxed under this theoretical system of mine. So we are looking at 21,500 dollars per household. According to the Census in 2000 there are 105,480,101 households in the US. Which means annually the nation would take in 2,267,822,171,500 dollars. Which is 2.26 trillion dollars per year for those curious. Currently in 2009 the US took in 2.15 trillion dollars in Taxes, which in part had to do with every cutting back on spending because of the banking catastrophe that transpired. However it is estimated to increase to 3.4 trillion dollars by 2014 (and 2.3 this year if you were curious).

The amount of money brought in is the same, as of last year, but the reasoning is very different. People will no longer be taxed for supporting their society (income tax), they will no longer be taxed for supporting their nation (housing and land taxes), and they will no longer be taxed for being alive (various other taxes on necessities). Now people will only be taxed for living luxuriously, which means that our nations maintenance would be supported not by the mandated draining of income but by taking funds from humanities natural desire to live splendidly. If a family was hitting hard times and needed to live modestly they would be able to do so without being taxed and further hurting them.

The spending of tax money would also be greatly different. Projects would be based on quality of service and not on lobbyists. Companies that prove their worth through projects that are successful and supported by the communities that are affected by them would be hired to work across the nation. Likewise companies that support their local cities and states and do not invest money overseas (specifically to hide income, no punishment for aiding ailing nations). The internet would aid in this quest for quality as state populations could vote and comment on how they feel about a project. Were the roads that were recently repaved now dangerous to ride on? This type of information would be critical in choosing where to spend money.

We are also working off an assumption that manipulation of information would be an offense that could be penalized. A manipulation of information is any communication whose intended purpose is to mislead people into doing something against their own interest. It is incredibly popular in modern America (see healthcare and basically any political run). If an organization starts spreading rumors that the pavement used in a road job causes AIDS just to scare people into voting against it they’d be punished (this is an example, I wish it felt outlandish but considering commercials these days).

Reinvestment into the nation would also be prioritized. It would begin with the most vital elements of a society and work downwards.

At the top tier we’d have the following: Health (both preventative and curative) and Education. These would include organizations that examine foods and products to make sure they are healthy, like the FDA (but hopefully not underfunded or ideologically driven), investments into companies and families that produce high quality healthy foods. Investments into research to provide healthy food at high quantities and investments in providing food that is primarily grown within the states. Using greenhouses and other technology to replicate out of country environments. This is not to become isolationist but to better provide citizens with job availability.

On the education front we would fund both lower level and high level education and we would invest heavily in science. I would much love to see a nation where scientists who perform at high levels could receive the kind of paychecks a baseball player gets for playing a game as both serve an important purpose (though the latter infinitely more short term than the former). There would also be bonuses to companies who do not patent their products and bonuses to research groups who share information. The goal being to create a network of information that combines the greatest minds across the whole country. Also heavy investment in bringing top minds to all levels of school to help inspire children. I’m a firm believer that people will rise to the level you expect of them, and culturally we have much evidence for that.

If I didn’t establish it well enough, Health is a blanket term for everything outside of education that is vital for living. Housing, eating, and a clean environment.

After this you would have restorative work in states. Environmental protection, infrastructure repair (such as roads, bridges, and buildings), and multiple times each decade there would be a panel formed to examine any possible ways to improve on the many aspects of infrastructure. Perhaps discoveries have been made into a new alloy that makes plumbing much safer and long lasting, or a new form of solar energy could utilize unused surface area on rooftops. Just as an example.

Investments into other countries. Supporting education and health in our close neighbors as well as struggling countries. We would also end the drug war, legalizing drugs would be a good way to stifle crime globally as their major source of income would be struck directly. Plus this is a strong luxury item that could increase profits. A small investment into honest education on drugs would be the replacement, making sure that people know that while drugs are not evil if used improperly they can hurt a person. This way citizens can make informed decisions on the products. There would be a strong push also for companies producing these drugs for honesty on labeling in case extra additives are used to increase addictiveness. Not that it helps since most people know Cigarettes are as addictive as Water (seriously I can’t quit drinking the stuff).

After that you would have Military investment. Ideally the nation would be able to resolve issues with other countries through diplomacy (why else need diplomats?), but if direct threats are made or an attack is had there would need to be a military. Investments into this branch would involve reduction of casualties and improvements in accuracy. The goal is to end a war with the least casualties on either side as possible and do it as quickly as possibly. If we can launch a missile the size of a poodle up the ass of a man threatening genocide on our people on a Friday over soup I’d be all for it.

I’m quite sure I’m forgetting major things at this point. But no nation was built on the ideals of one person. That’s the whole point of a group, someone mentions what you forgot. Whatever I’ve forgot would go down here (unless it is a blatant important oversight). In essence my ideal nation would be one that is strongly driven by education, a strong educational background leads to nothing but prosperity as long as it is available to all citizens.

So this is the first part. Yes I admit that it is somewhat utopian, but the underlying idea is that Taxes would be far less dickish and they’d work because we’d be more conservative in our spending (well pretty damn liberal if the quality is there). Now I’m using the term conservative and liberal in their LITERAL meanings, I don’t really care about the political meaning to either. That nonsense will be saved for another day.

Working till Death

It is unfortunate that humans in many places work until they are dead, or at the very least poorly functioning. To me it seems silly to come this far, advancing technology to such a degree, and still have folks working for so long.

I am of course speaking for the US, since I have little knowledge of other countries, but that doesn’t make it any less disturbing. I also find it interesting that generally speaking those with the least work get paid the most.

One might argue that a sports star does have a hard job. I would of course respond by waving the bullshit flag in all its steamy brown glory. If someone paid me millions of dollars to play Dance Dance Revolution non-stop for hours on end I would do it and not feel the least bit overworked. Likewise if I was playing it constantly every year I’d have a very good track record. I’ve not really seen more than a handful of sports player in any field that has performed extra ordinarily, the rest are about on par with what you would expect with endless hours of training.

CEO’s tend to be paid high amounts of money to do a job that is supposedly specialized and complicated. They make millions because frankly there are few people who could work the logistics. That’s the story at least. Again as with the sports analogy, anyone put in the position of CEO would have the same competency of most CEO’s within the first year.

I’m not one to belittle people for their profession, if you are doing something well that is always to be appreciated. But we act far too much like any job is too difficult for anyone to learn. I’ve found myself multiple times in the past lying about my knowledge of a subject and learning it during the first month or few months by watching others and researching. I am by no means special either, I have no rain man talent to speak of. This is something any average individual can do.

Yet we act like we can’t. Paying some 20 something hundreds of dollars at a Best Buy to do a very simple fix on a Personal Computer. Or not dropping bricks when we hear about absolutely positively anyone getting a 7-9 figure bonus for any job.

But I’ve gotten off on a bit of a tangent. In good faith however, my point is simple, we spend fantastic amounts of money on people to do pretty simple (relative to income) jobs. So what is left with everyone else doing the jobs that are frankly most times just as hard? They are left working for ages, many times until death. It’s sad.

All in all I think the response people should give when they hear “If you are going to criticize them do it yourself then.” is “Give me their pay and I’ll get it done.” Because frankly, the same training for many individuals will net the same results. Special exceptions aside.

Forgive the mini rant, It’s been a long day haha.
